Wall Street Project (2018)

anglais A film with a great and very important idea for me personally: The world is becoming more and more interconnected, everything is accelerating, but what does one really have from it all? I had no idea that The Hummingbird Project had come into being, and I am even more surprised. At first I was afraid it would be a variation on Fincher's The Social Network, but unnecessarily - it's something completely different, but with the equally excellent Jesse Eisenberg, the surprising Alexander Skarsgård and the divine Salma Hayek, who got the least interesting character, but it was still a joy to see her act in something that's not a silly comedy.

Dune (2021)

anglais I like it when the film takes me to a whole new world and it does it so believably that after a few minutes I have no doubt that I really am there. I think Avatar was the last to do it, and I'm glad that Dune was able to do it now. I don't know how people who didn't read the book are going to like it, but I felt at home on Arrakis and I enjoyed the beautiful design, the architecture, the design of the ships, the costumes and the precisely cast actors as much as the story with which the creators (assuming that there will be a second film) matched as best they could. Where Herbert's book gave them space to delight, they delighted, and where they could take something away, they did so in their own and in the audience's interest. Yes, the book is much richer thanks to the constantly flowing thought processes of all the characters, and many more things are obvious in it than in the film, but I did not feel that the Dune lacked anything significant. A separate chapter is the music of Hans Zimmer, which I must honestly praise again after No Time to Die. I can't imagine that the second film won't be made, so I’m not even going to imagine it and I'm looking forward to it.

Rifkin's Festival (2020)

anglais Wallace Shawn in the main role didn't sit well with me, I'd prefer more of a poisonous Woody alter ego, like Larry David in Whatever Works. However, I liked the film and I didn't even feel like Woody Allen was stealing, because he was dealing with what he had done several times (if not many times), but he went about it a little differently. This time in the form of therapy and with a great idea to show the hero's ideas in the style of films that he loves. So, I learned that even hypochondria can be good if you have a beautiful reason for it, and that Death gives you the best advice for life (with Christoph Waltz's face).

I onde dager (2021)

anglais I had fun, but during the final half hour, which just stretched everything unnecessarily, I got over my enjoyment. If they could manage to condense the story more and the film was 30 minutes shorter, I would definitely be happier. Either way, this silliness is worth seeing, whether you're a fan of Tommy Wirkola, Noomi Rapace or just this quirky "Tarantino-light" genre.

The Guilty (2021)

anglais An intimate and such a well written film that it seemed to me almost like an adaptation of a very good radio play. I didn't see the original, so I was able to be (for an hour and a half) tense and wait to see what came out of it, because from the beginning something suspicious hung in the air in that strange night atmosphere. Jake Gyllenhaal is great and the point was successful - given that and the overall tone, I understand why the Americans needed to make (remake) this film and at this time.

Being James Bond: The Daniel Craig Story (2021)

anglais This ode to Daniel Craig is very well deserved. From enduring the general hate, to the start of a superstar career and all that it entails, to a touching farewell to the entire cast and crew of No Time to Die. This Bond will be missed.

Dobře placená procházka (1966) (téléfilm)

anglais A Walk Worthwhile is a classic I know by heart. When I found out today that I had not reviewed it, I could review it off the top of my head. But why wouldn't I watch it again? Moreover, on the day of the incredible ninetieth birthday of the even more incredible Jiří Suchý! So, all the best!

Mourir peut attendre (2021)

anglais No one could have wished for a better farewell - Bond, Craig, us... No one. I will miss Daniel Craig as 007, but I am very happy that he has made five great films (I had no doubt that another one would come after Spectre, no matter what anyone said), which played so beautifully with the notorious Bond attributes (this time we finally get a proper villain super base) and with us, and it was just a pleasure to watch. No Time to Die is more than just the last part of a series - it's a film for the fans, which doesn't make sense without Craig's previous films, and which you'll enjoy even more if you know older films, especially On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The screenplay took advantage of everything the last four films had to offer, and added something new. Fukunaga's direction is fierce and playful in the action scenes, in the other scenes he relies mainly on the actors (I would like to highlight the adorable Ana de Armas, with whom I would wanted to see a solo film), the fateful atmosphere is illustrated and the pace is set by the roaring Hans Zimmer, who put the effort in, and John Barry's legacy is certainly not a disgrace. Thanks for saving the world and for the fight scenes, Bond. James Bond.

Passeport pour Pimlico (1949)

anglais A sort of British post-war Kocourkov or The Best Man of All. I had to check if the script was at least inspired by a real event, because the plot is so absurd that I wouldn't be surprised if there was a grain of truth in it. But it’s not.

Shoky & Morthy: Poslední velká akce (2021)

anglais I am glad that from time to time we have such a beautifully cheeky genre in the Czech Republic, from which the enthusiasm of the creators and the sincere belief that the audience will have fun just like them emerges. Shoky & Morthy: Last Big Thing doesn't care about anything else, and that's fine. Yes, you could say that three quarters of Andy Fehu's film was probably made just so that he could make the unprecedented finale... And you would be right. But it's actually fun the entire time, Štěpán Kozub plays his careless person to the best of his abilities and Tomáš Magnusek is so great that you will regret every minute he is not on screen. Seriously.
