American Nightmare 4 : Les origines (2018) Boo !

anglais For a while, I was hoping that the creators were just kidding. Unfortunately, they were serious. The most suffering ethnic group after Jews got on NFFA's radar, and the film went south for me. Not only because I couldn’t care less about the relationship between black and white Americans, since my family never owned a plantation in Dixieland, but mainly because the screenplay was worth dog shit. Rambo was better with Stallone. The whole film sucked up to the black community so much that I had an urge to start rapping and hang a portrait of Martin Luther King on my wall.

Venom (2018)

anglais I had a surprisingly good time. The film worked great as a comedy, but the fact is that I expected something darker and more chilling. Even biting heads off was kind of cute and funny, despite the obvious potential. I would have given a higher rating had the atmosphere been slightly more sinister. By the way, kudos to Batman for doing an excellent job voicing Venom.

Ant-Man et la Guêpe (2018)

anglais I had a great time with the first Ant-Man. It had an action-packed plot filled with exactly my kind of humor. This is why I was quite disappointed with the second installment. There was humor, but it was sort of uptight. The only characters who could really make me laugh were Luis and his two employees. The plot felt like a family adventure film, the only thing missing was a wife and two kids under twelve sitting next to me.

La Vipère noire - Head (1986) (épisode)

anglais With the first season gone, I miss Brian Blessed, but Miranda Richardson as Elizabeth is a great replacement. She’s clearly having a blast in the role. The second episode perfectly contradicts the saying, “Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.” Sometimes, it’s worth the wait.

Korunní princ (2015) (téléfilm)

anglais The story was easy to follow, the acting performances were quite decent, the dragon wasn’t one of the worst and, thankfully, there was no singing. I decided to give it four stars because it was simply hilarious. I absolutely didn't expect there to be so much quality humor. I was chuckling from the very beginning, but the tournament topped it all off (cheerleaders, bracket chart). I was satisfied.

Vianočné želanie (2018) (téléfilm)

anglais The unbelievable happened! Czechoslovak (or rather Slovak-Czech) co-production has unexpectedly proven fruitful, and I finally enjoyed a Christmas fairy tale. It’s a shame that the creators sabotaged their efforts with an incredibly abrupt conclusion, in which evil gave up too quickly and everything turned out well so fast that the poor protagonist barely had time to realize he had actually found a bride. But anyway, it was clearly the best Christmas fairy tale I have seen recently. I don't count Angel of the Lord, that's a whole other level.

La Vipère noire - Bells (1986) (épisode)

anglais The first episode of the second series really made me enjoy Edmund Blackadder. Rowan Atkinson ditched the exaggerated Mr. Bean expressions, and started delivering the witty, sarcastic humor that I love. I had a great time watching, and I'm glad leeches are no longer a common medical treatment.

La Vipère noire - The Black Seal (1983) (épisode)

anglais The season finale didn't excite me much. King Richard was the highlight, but the rest of the episode fell flat. I didn't find it particularly funny, which is disappointing for this show.

La Vipère noire - Witchsmeller Pursuivant (1983) (épisode)

anglais I initially thought of giving this episode four stars, but then I realized how much I enjoyed it. It should be required viewing for anyone quick to accuse and judge without evidence, like in the MeToo movement. Funny and insightful.

La Vipère noire - The Queen of Spain's Beard (1983) (épisode)

anglais Just a tad weaker than the previous episode. Still, I had a great time. Medieval politics were tricky, but King Richard navigated them like a pro. Miriam Margolyes was excellent as Nadezhda Krupskaya in Stalin - every time I saw her, I remembered her role as the Spanish Infanta, which had me cracking up. Jim Broadbent was fantastic in his role too.
