Sherlock Holmes (2009)

anglais Guy Ritchie is one of those directors whose qualities I acknowledge but whose films leave me underwhelmed, and Sherlock Holmes left me very much so. I didn’t get bored, I didn’t have fun, I’ve just watched it once and I’m no longer interested in it. I will forget that they exists. Sherlock. Guy.

La Tour infernale (1974)

anglais The second best film set in a skyscraper. After Die Hard of course.

Precious (2009)

anglais My eyes are wide, my jaw has hit the floor and my brain can hardly believe that something like this is still possible in a civilised society, it’s a pity that it doesn’t quite manage to get to the heart. The problem perhaps is mine, the story is so awful that I didn’t have the courage to get into it. PS: The mother in Precious is one of the most disgusting characters in film, and I’m including Alien and the moth mutant from The X-Files.

Une éducation (2009)

anglais Simply pleasant? Yes. Pleasantly simple? No. Unpleasantly simple? Yes. Unfortunately. More than three stars would be simply too much.

Phénomènes Paranormaux (2009)

anglais A very attractive premise with an unfortunately tragic result. I don’t think there’s been anything in a film that has annoyed me so much as the “real footage” from this one. The director’s interview with the physician is so awfully unconvincing that it’s almost offensive that they expect us to believe it’s real. The actors aren’t very good, the script is all over the place; basically, this could have been a ten minute documentary, because all the chances for an interesting movie scene are squashed by the “real footage”, i.e. when something interesting starts to happen, the “real camera”, which for some unnatural reason had stopped shooting, returns and all you get are blurry images and screams. And that ending! It delivers an utterly pointless twist about something (perhaps the only thing) that didn’t need one at all! It made me facepalm in disbelief. I think I believe in the supernatural in some way, but that doesn’t mean I can like this film. PS: Owls are not what they seem…

Le Sadique à la tronçonneuse (1982)

anglais Oh well. If I had read the reviews here I wouldn’t have watched Pieces because I know very well I’m unable to appreciate this type of horror. It’s not Boo!, but it is garbage, which, at least for me, it’s almost the same.

La Route (2009)

anglais For most of the runtime I had decided on a 100% rating, but the last few minutes belong to a completely different film. When it comes to the portrayal of a post-apocalyptic future, The Road leaves all the modern competition way behind. Only the old British film Threads can be compared in terms of the intensity of the despair and depression. The Road is a strong argument for those who claim that I Am Legend and Carriers are not particularly good films. 9/10

A Serious Man (2009)

anglais You’ll never know why I am giving three stars! Ha, ha, ha, ha!

affiche

Le Beau-père (2009)

anglais This was quite a nice surprise, not because of the plot, which is very classic and predictable (basically, it’s what would come out if you asked anyone to write the most clichéd thriller about a guy who creeps into families and murders them), but because of the competent direction and casting. A second viewing is pointless, but it’s really worth watching it once, I’d say. PS: The way the opening credits scene is conceived gives you hope that you’ll watch something more interesting than what you get in the end.

In the Air (2009)

anglais A very nice film, but I’m not that thrilled, really. I’m still not the right age for Up in the Air. An Oscar for Vera Farmiga, the script, or the director wouldn’t make me mad, for best film, on the other hand, yes. 75%
