Tengri, le bleu du ciel (2008)

anglais A film that is interesting mainly because of where it takes place, who is involved in it, and also because the author wanted to show what life looks like somewhere a bit different than what we're used to. This was achieved, and it presents to us a somewhat different world where we probably wouldn't survive, but a world that is no less beautiful and no less challenging to live in.

Tender Comrade (1943)

anglais Trumbo was certainly not a bad screenwriter, but this film, which is significantly influenced by the war and essentially only presents the dialogues of women who remained after the men went to war, just couldn't captivate me. It's as if every scene had to hide a bit more than it actually did, and so their storytelling ability wasn't as strong.

Tarzan and the She-Devil (1953)

anglais My first encounter with Lex Barker as Tarzan. As I hadn't done any research on this, I jumped right on the bandwagon, as this is the fifth and final Tarzan movie to feature Lex Barker. And it's not bad, it's just not surprisingly interesting either. Just Tarzan, Jane, and an evil woman to boot.

Quill (2004)

anglais Perhaps only the Japanese can make a film like this. No, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but coming from a nation that can present you with real madness, vulgarity, disgust, and perversions in movies, this emotional and touching film about a dog raised to help the blind comes across as quite sentimental. Watching life from a dog's first steps makes the film quite unusual indeed.

Jeunes filles impudiques (1973)

anglais I like that this time this is an erotic film that actually has a story. The girls, who are beautiful and natural here, find themselves in the clutches of several deranged individuals. Sure, the whole thing comes off more like a comedy than something serious, which is a bit of a shame, but considering what I've seen in terms of erotic films lately, I rate this one positively.

Heartbeat (2017)

anglais Instead of Liam Neeson, it's now a mother of a daughter who tries to rescue her lost child from some ugly fate that might await her. And so we watch a rather uneventful thriller, moving at a relatively slow pace, where nothing really manages to grab your attention, mainly because it's obvious how it will end.

affiche

Les Brutes dans la ville (1971)

anglais It's probably meant to be a bit of a comedy, but at the same time, this western is quite dark and has very uncomfortable moments. There were a lot of interesting actors here - Telly Savalas, Robert Shaw, and Martin Landau - and I liked their performances. It has a buildup, and the hangings are quite uncomfortable, with plenty of them featured.

All We Had (2016)

anglais Katie Holmes not only took on the lead role but also directed this film, where she primarily showcases herself as a fairly capable actress who isn't afraid to get a little dirty. I must say, I'm quite a fan of hers, and so this superficial dive "to the bottom" of society appealed to me, mainly because it simply aims to show that there are some problems here. It's not revelatory, but it's a certain perspective.

Une soirée d´enfer (2011)

anglais Topher Grace and Teresa Palmer just don't click for me in this film, and I watched them with slight discomfort because this simply isn't the type of romantic comedy that I enjoy. The chubby friend is probably the funniest, which is quite sad because the other characters are boring. Overall, this just didn't work.

Der Bunker (2015)

anglais I wasn't too surprised when I looked up the name of the director, Nikias Chryssos, indicating Greek ancestry. While watching The Bunker, I remembered the film Dogtooth, which is Greek and has a very similar poetic style. These are not films for everyone, but they are films that have something to say, even in their quirkiness, which is unique.
