Fender Bender (2016)

anglais The horror murder-mystery Fender Bender plays it safe and doesn't offend, but unfortunately doesn't excite either. The killer is one that could be quite iconic, but it would be just as easy to confuse him with other films and misplace him. Some of the scenes where the viewer is supposed to be scared are almost awkward, but I appreciate the effort that was put into it. However, it just wasn’t enough for a great result.

Deadgirl (2008)

anglais Deadgirl is a film that has a very good idea, and it's relatively original in that sense, but trying to cram a story into it that is ultimately very boring just doesn't work. This film is great in the way it shows how people can treat each other, and in how realistic and how unafraid it is. Yet it's still a step short of perfection. It’s definitely an above-average horror film though.

Fascination (1979)

anglais Fascination is a film that is a little bit crude in its eroticism - in the sense that it's just about showing naked female bodies - but it delivers this crudeness quite subtly and, most importantly, in a very sexy way. The women here are beautiful and natural, and the film, while perverse at its core, is very tasteful in its presentation of eroticism and is visually simply beautiful. And there’s not much more to it.

Ať žijí duchové! (1977)

anglais This fairytale is just so beautifully naive that I can't help but rate it highly. There are so many memorable lines that I don't even know where they come from, and I use them myself. Moreover, the songs are simply unforgettable, and Svěrák and Uhlíř gave their all in them. It still entertains me after all these years.

Pitch Perfect 3 (2017)

anglais The third time's the charm? Plot-wise it's not as good as the previous films, and in fact it's actually quite weak and maybe a bit too loopy, just to keep the audience engaged for the third time. However, the musical numbers are still good and definitely worth watching. The girls have everything they need and their musical arrangements are still great.

Ghosts of Darkness (2017)

anglais Ghosts of Darkness has quite good moments - not many, and they are not great, but they are good enough and you can see that there was an attempt to scare or at least disgust the audience. The film did a good job in places, but the slow pace was not a good idea, because it's rather tiresome and the two paranormal investigators also get quite tiresome after a while and you'll end up hoping their ordeal ends quickly.

Cries in the Night (1980)

anglais Funeral Home has a pretty decent idea, but the execution isn't all that great. It stars a kind old lady who wants to run a boarding house, but as far as the actual killing goes, it's just not that great. It doesn't always have the right atmosphere, although there are some hints that it could be really good. This film does have something to it, something that makes the film worth watching.

Bleed (2016)

anglais The horror film Bleed focuses on the last part, which is evident. It is meant to shock the viewer, although it is obvious that this is what the script has been aiming for all along. This is the part that's gory, the part that's really ugly, though the execution is certainly not perfect. Still, it's the best part and at least it makes Bleed worth watching. You really won't find many other reasons to watch this film and you might be better off skipping it.

A Night in the Woods (2011)

anglais If you're a found footage enthusiast and you're into everything that's made in this genre, go ahead and watch A Night in the Woods. You'll probably enjoy it. But if you think found footage is long dead, then there's no point in you watching the film, because it will just be another reason for you to think that the genre really died quite a while ago. There's nothing interesting here at all.

Visions (2009)

anglais Although there is indeed an investigation going on here, it unfortunately turns out to be quite boring and doesn't provide an interesting twist. Most of the scenes are terribly flat and boring, even the "Visions" in the title have nothing to them that could have any terrifying effect on the viewer. This is lazy work, and you can almost say that Luigi Cecinelli was not able to properly build a suspenseful plot.
