Keyke mahboobe man (2024)
(KVIFF 2024) (Spoiler alert!) The director duo Maryam Moghadam and Behtash Sanaeeha explores the theme of loneliness and love in old age through the example of two septuagenarians, Mahin and Faramar, and they manage to portray in a funny and natural way the sad situation of people who are left alone in old age – and in a repressive Iran where women must be properly veiled and alcohol is objectionable. You sort of suspect that the evening, during which the two loners try to catch up on the last decades, will have a bitter aftertaste, but, c'est la vie! A colonoscopy and a shower together, that was brilliant.
Janžurka (2024)
(KVIFF 2024) Making a documentary about a member of your family can be a tricky task, but Theodora Remundova has succeeded in her quest. Personally, I would have shortened the film by a good twenty minutes, as some parts were a bit too tedious. But I do appreciate the fact that along with the familiar archival footage from films, there were also lesser-known archival photographs, encounters with classmates, and love letters. At times I was distracted by Iva Janžurová’s witticisms, which quite unnecessarily detracted from the rest of the film. Besides a number strong moments, the documentary was dominated by funny sequences and remarks from the mouths of "Ivuška" and her relatives, which amused the whole audience.
Dar Sarzamin-e Barâdar (2024)
(KVIFF 2024) In the Land of Brothers tells the story of the plight of Afghans in neighbouring Iran through three subtly intersecting narratives on three temporal planes. The film succeeds in bringing the situation there to life in an authentic, poignant but not underhanded way, using the examples of the teenage Mohammed, the young mother Leila and the father Qasem, and bringing an incredibly powerful and dense story that will convince us Central Europeans how good we have it here. All three stories have perfect acting, often making do with mere allusions, which, however, had the same power as explicit scenes would. In addition to the engaging but sad story and the acting performances, I must highlight the wonderful music and the cinematography. P. S. The end credits were followed by one of the strongest and certainly the most sincere applause of the festival.

58. KVIFF: "Bylo to překrásné a bylo toho dost"
Den se dnem se sešel a těch osm dní na 58. KVIFF uplynulo jako voda (v řece Teplé). Na svou první účast na karlovarském festivalu, navíc v pozici ČSFD agenta, jsem se těšil, zároveň jsem měl trochu obavy z toho, jak moc velký ten festival je. Víkendový začátek i konec se nesl a nese v poněkud hektičtějším (a řádně vyhřátém) duchu se spoustou návštěvníků festivalu, ale i turistů z různých koutů republiky i zahraničí, zatímco během týdne byl znát menší pokles v počtu lidí ve Varech, což jsem osobně velmi ocenil.
I když jsem nikdy nebyl moc velký fanoušek matematiky, dovolím si níže menší číselný přehled v rámci mého prvního KVIFF:
--- Počet dní strávených na festivalu: 8
--- Počet zhlédnutých filmů: 24
--- Počet minut strávených při projekcích (dle stopáží): 2289 (38 hodin 9 minut)
--- Průměrné hodnocení (počet */film): 3,46
--- Průměrný počet naspaných hodin (denně): 6-6,5
--- Počet zkonzumovaných teplých lázeňských oplatek: 3
--- Počet pokusů dostat se na projekci filmu Vlny: 2
--- Počet navštívených rozhleden a vyhlídek: 5
--- Počet policistů, kteří po mně chtěli identifikaci: 1 (hned první den, přičemž šlo prý o omyl)
--- Počet záběrů na mě v oficiálním spotu KVIFF: 1
Už teď mohu téměř s jistotou říct, že to nebyla moje první a zároveň poslední účast na festivalu, a dokážu si představit, že v roce 2025 dorazím znovu. A určitě budu podruhé věnovat větší pozornost programu, abych vše neplácal den dva dopředu, jako tomu bylo letos. Je důležité nepodcenit přípravu! Z tohoto důvodu mi teď například propluly mezi prsty vysoce oceňované Vlny od Jiřího Mádla.
Pokud bych se měl podělit o nejlepší zhlédnuté filmy - dle mého názoru - vypadala by TOP 5 následovně:
(1) V zemi našich bratrů: Tři kapitoly! Tři silné příběhy! Jeden smutný osud!
(2) Substance: Krvelačná černohumorná satira na ideál ženské krásy!
(3) Mord: Zabijačková pocta klasikám československé nové vlny!
(4) Na kordy: Bratři, jak se patří?!
(5) Kneecap: Hip-hopová jízda na káčku!
Jakousi pomyslnou karlovarskou "Zlatou lázeňskou oplatku" bych udělil filmu Cabo Negro, protože - WTF?!
V neposlední řadě bych chtěl poděkovat Martinovi (POMO) za možnost agentovat na letošním ročníku KVIFF a taktéž čtyřem agentům a jedné agentce, s nimiž jsme v duchu festivalu vedli podnětné diskuze (nejen) o filmech.
Teď už zbývá jediné: NA SHLEDANOU, KARLOVY VARY! :-)
