Murder Mystery 2 (2023)

anglais Cheerful silliness for a good mood. It lacks the surprise moment of the first episode and the jokes are weaker, but that's what makes the crazy action and the level of luxury all the better. The whole intro makes it seem like the main stars have been spoiled by Netflix with new iPhones, beautiful dresses and an Indian dance they were the only ones who didn't have to learn choreography for. Sandler's a natural.

Futurama - Season 8 (2023) (saison)

anglais Each season gets more diluted. There are fewer and fewer great episodes, and for every great joke, there are two mediocre ones. The creators are afraid of interesting topics in these hyper-correct times and often just skim the surface. But that’s to be expected, since Futurama is just part of Disney now.

Gran Turismo : Based On a True Story (2023)

anglais I don't think I've ever played Gran Turismo. I didn't have a PlayStation, and Need For Speed or Forza were my thing. Fortunately it's not an adaptation of the game per se, but rather Rocky in a racing setting. Plus, it works great. From the flying Nissan passage onwards, it picks up and doesn't let go. Blomkamp feeds off beautiful shots of race tracks and has everything under control. Harbour keeps the story moving along and it all moves along well. Great music. It's just that Bloom doesn't quite fit. Schulin is flying through the air...

Pluto Junior (1942)

anglais Pluto's little son a big troublemaker. At its core, it's a children's romp, and my daughter liked both the caterpillar and the rescue by the heroic dad. I'm sure there are better shorts, but I have a particular soft spot for this one.

Ride with Norman Reedus (2016) (émission)

anglais I've long thought I had to check out at least one episode since it had such massive promotion in "Death Stranding" and finally I did. The Keanu Reeves episode had an incredibly cool style. Driving around Utah and learning about the local culture and natural beauty is a classic in these shows. I suppose they all will be.

Mystère à Venise (2023)

anglais Kenneth Branagh has conceived the third installment of his Poirot series in a completely different way than the first two, with a horror, schizophrenic atmosphere that flirts with the mystery genre and leaves the hero initially floundering and unsure. Haris Zambarloukos's camera alternates between unconventional angles of waterlogged rooms and views of a drizzly Venice in an amazing way, perfectly emphasizing that uncertainty. The sound design is amazing and really stands out in Dolby Atmos. The plot, for me, is unorthodox and the denouement is unexpected. This concept suited me very well and I'm looking forward to the sequel.

Je s'appelle Groot - Season 2 (2023) (saison)

anglais Definitely weaker than the first series, but my daughter still enjoys it. The best part is probably the robot snowman episode, but the short format means there's no time to get bored. The Observer episode is quite interesting, but paradoxically I wish it was more elaborate and not a short.

Ninja Turtles Teenage Years (2023)

anglais The animation style is downright hideous, I don't know how Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg could approve something so awfully drawn. Except for the turtles, everything is horrifying to look at. With the other mutants, it's sort of expected, but the normal humans are perhaps even uglier than the mutants. The visuals themselves are good, especially during the action scenes, which are dynamic, vivid, and a joy to watch. The turtles are really teenagers and their wisecracks makes sense for their age. The story with its multicultural overlay is annoying, as there is perhaps nothing but that theme in animation today, but it is wrapped up in awesome action sequences and goofy banter that must have been a challenge to translate. I don't know whether to look forward to the next episode, but I know one thing for sure, I can't let my daughter watch these turtles because she'll be scared of all those monsters = people. P.S.: Trent Reznor's music is awesome

affiche

Hunt (2022)

anglais A Korean spy thriller based on real events of the 1980s. A complicated relationship between two national intelligence unit commanders, the search for a North Korean spy within their own ranks and of course some personal skeletons in the closet of all the important characters. Jung-jae Lee delivers a terrific performance as writer, director and lead. The action scenes are good, as are the interrogations and competitive rivalries. It could have done with better drama and the middle drags a bit, but it's still a great romp with a gritty final inferno and a gut-wrenching ending. Great cinematography and great urgent music.

Sympathy for the Devil (2023)

anglais A watchable road thriller with some very nice scenes and a great Cage, whose crazy theatrics cleverly mask a fairly routine script. Adler can produce nice visuals, but he doesn't work miracles either. Kinnaman plays his part, but the roles of beleaguered dads don't give him much chance to stand out. Better average with great music.
