Coup de foudre à Bollywood (2004)

anglais I don't particularly seek out Jane Austen even in the traditional sense, but this is quite a nice change. The main benefit of the film is of course the goddess Aishwarya Rai making her debut in an English language production. :) I also liked Ashanti in the episode, and overall I was comfortable comparing this wedding to My Big Fat Greek Wedding and the classic BBC series Pride and Prejudice. There's no shortage of Anupam Kher or Naveen Andrews in this colorful entertainment, meaning that it’s got everything it needs.

Young Hercules (1998) (série)

anglais A classic spin-off of the series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys with Kevin Sorbo. At the time this series came out, Hercules and Xena were at their peak, they had their own animated film Hercules and Xena - The Animated Movie: The Battle for Mount Olympus and also a separate film about the young Hercules. In the new series, Ian Bohen (who played young Hercules in the standalone film and in the series with Sorbo) is replaced by Ryan Gosling. For fans of this series universe, this is a nice addition with a great soundtrack.

Hercule et Xena : La Bataille du Mont Olympe (1998)

anglais At the height of the fame of both shows, they had already done all the experiments, including the musical. Thus, the animated film (once again with catchy music) was another step forward. Maximum enthusiasm is underlined by the great choice of supporting characters, the classic plot, and the fact that Hercules and Xena always had so little time for each other. ;) The fifth star is for transformer-Gabrielle.

Cleopatra 2525 (2000) (série)

anglais In the year 2000, the carefully-constructed world of series produced by Renaissance Pictures was slowly coming to an end. Their greatest hero, Hercules, ended with a shorter 6th season in 1999. Was Xena supposed to be left pregnant alone? No way. It was therefore time for an interesting experiment. Xena didn't get another hero from her pseudo-Ancient world in the joint broadcast block, but instead the Back2Back Action Pack of two half-hour series from different other worlds. The first was a 26th-century female sci-fi, and the second was Jack of All Trades, a historical romp set in 1801. A year later, it became clear that Jack of All Trades would not be afforded another series, but Cleopatra 2525 had more potential to expand into hour-long episodes. That happened for a short period of time, and in the end, the entire series boasts a total of 28 episodes. A young stripper arrives in a world where humanity lives only underground and a few small teams led by the mysterious Voice are responsible for the law and the overthrow of the surface usurpers. She had breast surgery in the 21st century that failed, so she was frozen until they found a cure... That's the thing - Renaissance Pictures' humor can turn even a subject like this into an enjoyable action/funny and, to a good extent, dramatic series that is unmatched by anything else in its genre. The main characters are incredibly sexy and make a great trio of casual cuteness, strength, and smarts. For the titular Jennifer Sky, it was (unfortunately) the peak of her career, aided by a cameo role in Xena, but she could not develop her acting further. However, Victoria Pratt (Sarge) made her way into the bigger Mutant X series thanks to her character Cleo, and her TV career is far from over. Others worth mentioning include the sympathetically evil Danielle Cormack (as the telepathic Raina), the genuine bad guy Joel Tobeck (as the evil Creegen) and of course Elizabeth Hawthorne as the Voice and Patrick Kake as the robot Mauser. However, it’s too bad that after these eventful years, New Zealand productions have had to wait so long for other major commissions, such as Maddigan's Quest or the current Legend of the Seeker series or Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Fortunately, Cleopatra 2525 is finally available on DVD in several regions, and not just English-speaking ones, so fans can enjoy it anytime. :)

The L Word (2004) (série)

anglais The most important mainstream gay-themed series after Queer as Folk tells the story of the lesbian community in West Hollywood. After the airing of the final series, there were more webisodes that revealed secrets that no one wished to reveal... Only the one-time recap was good. The spinoff eventually morphed into The Real L Word, which is quite decent. When I first started watching the series, it had a wholesome effect on me, but nowadays I just remember the chills and anticipation of the upcoming plots and twists. The first season was really like a bolt from the blue. I loved Lara Perkins (among other things because I actually only gave The L Worda try because of her character Lauren Lee Smith from Mutant X). However, my smile froze on my face during the second season. By the third season, I was suffering quite a bit, but I was already part of the fandom by that point. The fourth season was perfect, the fifth was a given and the sixth was the farewell... Over the years, some of the women have changed, while others have stayed. I gradually fell in love with Helena Peabody and her actress Rachel Shelley, mostly due to the lack of Lara. I also naturally fell under the spell of Jennifer Flashdance Beals, who played the dominating Bette Porter. I rediscovered her sister Kit (Pam Grier), and Karina Lombard as Marina Ferrer has become the show's elusive icon, even in my perception of contemporary television. I loved Mia Kirshner's (Jenny Schecter) acting and I also had a lot of fun during the filming of Lez Girls.

Nip/Tuck (2003) (série)

anglais On March 3, 2010, after seven years, one of the most interesting chapters in the history of an American cable sequel series ended. I want to thank FX which, hand-in-hand with Showtime, is a true creator of no-holds-barred series (where’s the previously very shocking HBO at?). My journey to Nip/Tuck was thorny, but ultimately enduring. To this day, to put it politely, I'm still sitting on my ass from the turn of the second and third seasons. The perfect gradation in the early years of the series was deservedly rewarded with a brilliant storyline with The Carver, which made all the characters involved properly hit rock bottom. After that, I was firmly entrenched in the fandom, so that after the intimate and rather relaxing subsequent season with Larry Hangman, I could properly enjoy the first year, which gave us the full 22 episodes for the first time. To be clear, Nip/Tuck was originally a series meant for summer, and this move was meant to put it among the classic elite airing in the main season from fall to spring. Unfortunately, there was a writers' strike and the result was that we were following one storyline over two full years (!). There was a move from Miami to LA so that the mirror held up to the modern Western world could show more and more painful stories. Season 6 passed by very quickly at the end of 2009, providing an opportunity to (among others) a human parasite played by Rose McGowan, and once again an ancient tragedy led by Julia McNamara took the stage. Hell has opened its arms and revealed the veil of the night's events behind bars. Kimberly's incredible self-sacrifice was countered with genre-natural comedy... The final 9 episodes in Season 7 took the route of many recaps and took it pretty much from scratch. First, there was the return to the basic leitmotif of the triangle, which began in college and continued smoothly through the legacy of Escobar Gallardo and others, only to have the entire elite tastefully rounded out by Ava Moore. The final 100th episode pulled everything together and shouted to the world that everything was over and done. The gradation of the song "Perfect Lie" was great and naturally went beyond the shadow of the bland ending of the friendly series Dirt. Thank you, Ryan Murphy, for an exceptional piece of work.

The House of Eliott (1991) (série)

anglais The last classic produced for the BBC Television Centre, still using the old-fashioned method with several cameras at once and on film material... We didn't see the first reruns until 2021. Otherwise, this is perfection itself. It is an exquisite depiction of the 1920s, emancipation, the rise of the Eliot sisters' fashionable salon, and their journey through modern London society. They design dresses for high society, ballet companies, and film productions. They love, are loved, and always have inspiration on hand for a new collection. Some people say that it’s a poor relative to shows such as Downton Abbey, but these are just opinions. I, on the other hand, still consider The House of Eliott to be better than anything the BBC has offered since. This includes the acting, set design, costumes, quality period research, and of course the plot. The book "The House of Eliott" (by Jean Marsh), describes the opening of the series, with which it is identical, but the second book, "House at War: The Continuing Story of the House of Eliott" (by Elisabeth O'Leary), tells the story of the sisters years later, i.e., what the series did not cover, because the series actually ends in the 1920s with its third season. #bbc

Die Cleveren (1998) (série)

anglais One of the most interesting German crime series consists of a pilot film and a total of six seasons of eight episodes each. Interestingly, the last season was three years in the making. Yet these were not the only problems that affected broadcasting around the world. Today, the complete series is available on DVD, and in addition to the brilliant psychology doctor Dominik Born (Hans-Werner Meyer), we can also look forward to all three of his colleagues, i.e., the chief police commissioners Eva Glaser (Astrid M. Fünderich), Isabel Becker (Delia Mayer), and Katrin Rasch (Esther Schweins). Dominik has a very interesting relationship with each of them, so in addition to the cases, which are mostly solved by initially profiling the perpetrator, there are also some sharp dialogues and here and there some decent playful team shootouts with the professor-pathologist Konstanze Korda (Barbara M. Ahren). She is wonderfully jealous of Dominik and thus none of his partners have it easy with her. However, some episodes are quite harsh and others truly require knowledge of the previous plot, although it shouldn't be a problem to randomly start watching the series. I started out that way myself, and now I mainly return to episodes that mix serious cases with internal irony and humor. I could recommend most of the episodes, but I mostly prefer the following from the third and fourth seasons: Jungfrauenschnaps, Der Vampir, Stuttgart Rot, Zwillinge and the double episode Die Göttin. The final sixth season features three double episodes and if you really want to enjoy the series, watch Kinder to the very end. Besides having an interesting case, a few private stories are also resolved.

Dirty Sexy Money (2007) (série)

anglais This is exactly the kind of series that you can't really have a serious debate about, but you do enjoy it. Despite all the assumptions, it’s brilliant entertainment and a quality guilty pleasure. It’s also got a great cast.
