Belgrade, 1993: Serbia is at war and life is hard due to sanctions and inflation. Marijana tries to keep the family together, while her daughter Minja is singularly focused on her Ninja Turtle-themed birthday party. As the children wreak havoc in the living room, the grown-ups keep the party going in the kitchen, drinking vodka, chain-smoking and fighting. With Celts debut director Milica Tomović uses the warm and witty microcosm of a children’s birthday party to depict a people struggling to uphold a sense of normality during the darkest of times.
