In 2013, self-defense groups originated in the state of Michoacán with the aim of eradicating cartels from their communities. But it was not until 2014, when in Nueva Italia, Michoacán, the self-defense groups looted and burned properties linked to drug trafficking, including the only existing cinema in the town.
