A film that realistically portrays the lamentable life of a bar hostess in 1960s Korea. At the time, countless women from the countryside traveled to Seoul to earn money, but some, swindled by the people they met or struggling to survive, had no choice but to work in one of the capital's many red light districts. In The Door of the Body, Eunsook is a diligent and hardworking masseuse at a public bathhouse who falls in love with Manseok, a customer's broker to whom she invests her savings. But Manseok isn't the man he pretends to be and only seems to betray her. Widely known for his working-class comedies, including A Petty Middle Manager (1961) and A Salary man (1962), Lee Bong-rae presents audiences with a stark and provocative departure from the rest of his body of work.
