Little Africa

'Pequena África', or 'Little Africa', is a place of cultural black resistance populated by freed enslaved between the 1850s and 1920s. It is the birthplace of samba. Nowadays this Brazilian region full of archaeological sites represents a living memory of slavery, which official history tried to erase even after abolition. (International Film Festival Rotterdam)
