The Pioneer

Set in Japan in an otherworldly near future prior to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, artist and photographer Ishihara Umi’s glamorous dystopian sci-fi finds a mother and daughter torn apart. Government agents abduct the mother after discovering the pills they’d distributed to prevent memory loss have had no effect on her. (International Film Festival Rotterdam)
