The family-fractured lives of a stubborn auto-mechanic, a retired widower, and a repressed college student meaningfully intertwine at Palace, a watering hole in the rural Indiana town of Upland. At the bar, both the distinct divide and the common ground between the locals and the more transient student residents of the college in town come into clear focus. The film’s artful narrative structure, divided into three discrete movements that gradually harmonize as the story unfolds, holds dear to the adage that “every stranger has a story.” (RiverRun International Film Festival)
