Dark shadows from an unclear past fall on the face of a man, standing in front of the grave of his wife. A stranger with no name and a prominent scar on his face comes to a small island village. A little later his body will lie dead of the beach and director Michael Kreindl has great fun not even trying to make this a whodunit, but instead introduce the murderer almost immediately: it's the head of police of the small island called Vis, who is now tasked with solving a murder he himself committed. This dark cop-thriller is a wonderful trip into the depths of the human soul. Two investigators from the mainland soon arrive and into a case that will have further victims, and will reach deeply into the past. Old wounds reappear and the country will not grant its children inner peace. And detective Branca Maric will have to ask herself what the truth is worth, if she only brings pain and despair. Looking at oneself in the mirror will not be as easy as it used to be for all involved. (Internationales Filmfest Oldenburg)
