The nouveau-riche Richard Garner buys himself an aristocratic wife just like a beautiful artefact. And he makes the woman feel this in every minute. Lillian falls in love with Tom Colman, the talented genny engineer, and following her heart decides to leave riches. She travels to Egypt with her lover. The happy young man rushes down the street to fetch a taxi and is run over by a truck. First, the doctor takes Lillian for the dead mans wife, but when he learns the truth he suggests that Lillian leave the flat. Lillian returns to Richard, and, astonished, she recognizes the doctor as one of their dinner guests. He does not reveal her secret, however. Initially his opinion about Lillian is negative for having got over the death of her lover so soon, but when he gets to know Richard a little better, he takes her side.
