The small New Zealand town of Brokenwood has charming landscapes, quirky inhabitants - and an alarming murder rate. Eccentric Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Shepherd (Neill Rea) is on the case, along with straitlaced Detective Kristin Sims (Fern Sutherland) and ambitious DC Sam Breen (Nic Sampson).
