Nemes Rózsa, the poor peasant girl, inherits the wealth of the count Veszprémy Döme. The Veszprémy family receives the heiress, who behaves clumsily in the aristocratic milieu, with hostility. The only exception is the young count, Péter, who takes a liking to the good-hearted girl. Rózsa, possessing the promise of Péter for marriage, donates the entire Veszprémy wealth to the young man in a deed of gift. The family, however, chases the girl away and wants to hear nothing of the marriage. They even accuse her of being an unmarried mother. Yet she does not lose her wealth and even the marriage is contracted, for it turns out that the deed of gift was accidentally signed with the pen of the scheming bailiff, filled with fading ink, so the signatures have faded away from the contract. The child proves to be not Rózsa's but a certain Nemes Rozál's. (Palatinus Film)
