Throughout the entire film, I wondered if James Franco was serious about his acting performance because I couldn't help but feel that it was all a parody of the performances of his colleagues who were trying to portray individuals with disabilities. Franco obviously has a great fondness for American authors of the last century, but that certainly doesn't mean he knows how to translate them into film.
