Ripper Street (2012)

anglais After watching the first season I'm definitely looking forward to the next one. A well-made crime series set in Victorian London with a depressing atmosphere of the slums, a good theme and script, and interesting characters. I assumed it would be a single case that would be solved throughout the whole season. Instead, each episode brings a new case, and the episodes are mainly linked by the characters' past. Original, imaginative, entertaining! ()

Season 2 (2013) (S02)

anglais The series seems to have even more momentum now than in the first season. Season 1 felt like eight individual episodes stitched together by a background story. The second season is more of a continuous story in which there are no separate cases. The plot is well constructed and perfectly escalates in the last two episodes. The grim atmosphere of Victorian London is captured so perfectly it made me feel as if I was drenched in all that mud. The character development was also handled very well. ()

Season 3 (2014) (S03)

anglais Some series get worse with each new season. Ripper Street, on the other hand, gets more and more entertaining. I've already praised the excellent theme and script in my previous reviews, which still holds true, but I forgot to mention the excellent soundtrack. Fortunately, the third season keeps going along the same lines as the second one. It continues to develop a strong story, unlike the slightly disjointed first season which I consider the weakest one of those I’ve seen so far, but still worth no less than five stars. The only disappointment of Season 3 was the somewhat ostentatious end of Mr. Best, which made me think of Platoon. ()

Season 4 (2016) (S04)

anglais After Season 4 I have to say that the atmosphere is a bit darker and the show has definitely moved from crime to mystery. Not that it's a bad thing, I like mysteries, so I'm still satisfied. I'm just curious to see how the fifth season will continue now that everyone is backed into a corner. I'm looking forward to the new developments. I like how everyone gradually gives in to the pressure of circumstances and is affected by the consequences of their own actions. Nothing is black and white; everyone is constantly moving in a kind of grey area. ()
