Alps

Alps est probablement le film le moins convivial de Yórgos Lánthimos et il m'a fallu un certain temps pour entrer dans l'intrigue. Les nombreuses scènes étranges, le comportement bizarre de tous les personnages et les relations peu claires rendent le film au mieux déroutant. Une fois de plus, je ne peux m'empêcher d'apprécier et de louer l'originalité et l'imagination uniques. (29/04/2019)

When you play foreign roles, you might completely lose your own. It's essentially the opposite of Dogtooth, because this time the protagonist desires to move from the real world into the fabricated one. I like how Yorgos Lanthimos focuses on just one character during dialogues to help the viewer grasp what is strong in the scene, but this time the plot is merely an opiate and its drivers are unnecessarily sedated. The result is mentally creased Alpine ranges shrouded in a fog of unyieldingness. (28/06/2024)

Yorgos Lanthimos certainly brings a certain refreshment to world cinema with his work. His films by no means suffer from a lack of originality, but they sometimes find their way to the viewer in a rather convoluted way. That's exactly how I feel about Alps. The theme is very novel, inviting us to think about how we actually live, and what is important to us... The reporting itself, however, did not quite sit right with me. Maybe because for a long time I was unable to understand what it was all about. I was also quite irritated by the machine-learned dialogue when trying to identify with a recently deceased person. I'm leaning toward three stars for the film’s imaginative nature, although I had originally intended to only give two. (55%) (26/05/2020)
