It focuses mainly on Tolstoy´s intellectual and philosophical ideas, his effort to get close to simple people and his belief that it is only the moral perfection of every individual that leads to improvement and revival of the society as a whole. It's been quite a few years since I saw that movie at the film club, so I should be cautious with my rating, but even after all these years, I shiver when I remember that dragged-out duration, which felt more reliable than a double dose of rohypnol. I don't expect action from biographical films, but wit - and that was perfectly missing here. It's pathetic, lacks distance, overly intimate, and once again, ten times emphasized, too long. Cold as a dog's snout. Overall impression: 20%.
