The classic thrillers of Alfred Hitchcock, a favorite subject of film theorists, get a remix in Les LeVeques energetic 2 Spellbound, which is a frame by frame re-editing of Hitchcocks 111-minute psychoanalytic thriller into kaleidoscopic patterns of a seven and a half-minute dance video, a sleek fast-forward run through Hitchcocks psychological thriller with the image mirrored against itself. Converting narrative suspense into visual velocity, and exploiting the symmetry of Hitchcocks camera by reversing every other frame, 2 Spellbound generates a hallucination of transference an ecstatic dance where bodies and identities intermingle and shift.
