Georgie and Tom are two Samoan children living in a sleepy coastal town in New Zealand in the 1970s. Their father Jack worries about his sons' future – growing up as they are in a white society without a mother – and believes that a strict regime is the best way to prepare them for the challenges that await them. But gradually, Georgie and Tom begin to realise that they must find the courage to oppose their father's rules if they are to make their way in New Zealand's society as the children of Samoan parents.
