Sure, it's more like a morality tale, with a passage at the end that's explicitly educational, where you learn, quite vividly, about the consequences of syphilis. But it's precisely because of that final passage that I give it credit, because it has its place here and it's presented quite uncomfortably and vividly. That's what you will remember from it.
