Szentjános fejevetele

The young school-teacher, Katalin, tries enthusiastically to change the backward ways of the little village, Szentjános (Saint John). She would like to have a new school-building built, teaches the children to be clean, and takes up the battle against alcoholism and corruption. Gál Imre is courting her, but Katalin does not like the man's indifference. His parents reject her and try to make her life unbearable in the village. Katalin asks the villagers to test her case, and although many of them support her, she is disappointed and returns to the town. In the end she changes her mind and decides not to give up.
