Born in 1917 in Poland, Israel Beker is the sole survivor of a large family that was devastated by the Shoah. After 1945 Beker ended up in Landsberg in a Displaced Persons camp for Jewish survivors. There he made the semi-autobiographical film Long is the Road (1948), the first filmic treatise on the Shoah from the perspective of Jewish survivors post 1945. (DOK.fest München)
