anglais A Lithuanian revenge caper that aspires to be the crime drama of the year. I don't recall ever seeing a film from Lithuania, but this is world class from craftsmanship to script, where everything works and everything a proper crime drama should have is here. We have a likable commissioner who just happens to be running for Mayor too. When his friend, the DA, mysteriously dies, all the evidence starts pointing towards him and trouble is brewing. The film may be slower paced, but from the first murder on it grabs your attention and grabs you by the balls. I liked the morbid, raw take on the murders, which have an almost ritualistic feel, and the staging is reminiscent of Hannibal. In short, it's a gritty take on revenge for past sins that we gradually learn about. I liked that that guessing the identity of the killer is not easy at all, on the contrary it is a very surprising and attractive element of the whole film. The motivation of the killer is also great, the whole thing makes sense and you really feel you are watching a well thought out film. I also praise the suspense and atmosphere, which is reminiscent of Nordic thrillers. Everything is really right. It's a pity about the very last few seconds, which slightly spoil the impression (the inclination for a full score is undoubtedly there), but still. this is a very accomplished and surprising affair, which a fan of dark and brutal crime dramas can't miss.8/10.
