Biographie

Oddvar Einarson has a long and extensive career as writer, director and cinematographer of numerous documentary, short and feature films. He made his debut as a director with the short film Time i Nyttelære in 1967. He made a name for himself with the documentary Kampen om Mardøla in 1972, touching upon difficult issues of environmentalism in telling the story of the confrontations between the authorities and protesters opposing the development of water power at the Mardal waterfalls. Both the issues, and the film, sparked controversy, a result Einarson also experienced with the similarly themed Prognose Innerdalen in 1981.

Einarson made his feature film debut with the drama X in 1986, which received the Jury's Special Prize at the Venice Film Festival, as well as the Children's Film Prize of the Nordic Film Institutes in Lübeck and the Norwegian National Film Award Amanda for Best Film.
