Biographie
Mehboob Khan tourne son premier film pour la compagnie Sagar Movietone : Judgement of Allah. D’autres titres suivent jusqu’au rachat de la Sagar Movietone par la RCA rebaptisée National Studio. Mehboob Khan y aligne une suite de trois chef-d’œuvres : Aurat, Bahen et Roti. En 1943, le cinéaste quitte National Studio pour fonder sa propre compagnie : Mehoob Productions. Son cinéma militant y prend un tour parfois plus léger et surtout plus populaire. En 1952 il réalise son premier film en couleur, Aan, et en 1957 le classique absolu Mother India.
