Biographie

Jean-Louis Roy begins his career at TSR in 1954. Initially working as a cameraman, then as an editor, he starts directing in 1963. In 1967, he makes L'Inconnu de Shandigor, selected for the competition in Cannes. As part of the Groupe 5 (of which he was one of the instigators) he makes Black Out (1970), selected for Berlin. From 1972 onwards, he concentrates on reportage, making several documentaries, notably L'Indien des Acacias (1972), La Maison des souvenirs (1973) and Romands d'amour (1983). In 2001, he comes up with the concept for Portraits passion, a series of twenty programs which he also presents, featuring some of his best documentary work.
