Biographie

Darren Stein was raised in a celluloid family with grandparents who started Crest National Film Laboratory in Hollywood in 1961. He started using his father’s video camera at age ten, casting his neighborhood friends in short films that would become the subject of his 2003 documentary Put The Camera on Me, featured on NPR’s This’American’Life. Upon graduating NYU’s Tisch Film School, Darren co-wrote and directed his first feature, the Las Vegas road-movie Sparkler. Darren went on to write and direct the dark teen comedy Jawbreaker, which premiered at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival and earned Rose McGowan a nomination for the MTV Movie Award for Best Villain. He wrote and directed the short film Color Me Olsen, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2007. He has also directed music videos and written pilots and screenplays for the most important majors.
